As we begin each Nia® class, we Step In. We do this to leave all distractions behind, center ourselves and be present for our practice.

CHOOSE JOY

Joy is a central theme in Nia. The first principle of Nia is The Joy of Movement. In life, sensing joy or feeling joyful, is often a choice. For me, because I happen to be named Joy, I realized choosing joy also means choosing myself. I invite you to choose yourself. Choose you! Every day! And choose joy, too! I believe Nia can guide you there.

WHAT IS NIA?

Nia is a fitness practice that combines the emotional expression of Dance Arts, the precision of Martial Arts and the functional movement of Healing Arts. In Nia, the movement is pleasurable and kind to the body. It is usually practiced barefoot. It is adaptable to every level of fitness, every age and type of body. Nia was created in California in 1983. Now headquartered in Portland, Nia is taught by 2100 licensed instructors in more than 40 countries worldwide.
